Tour of Puerto Montt, Frutillar and Puerto Varas
After your airport pick up, we begin the tour in Puerto Montt, a port and industrial city that was founded by German settlers more than 150 years ago. This city is the northern gateway to Patagonia. Here we will visit the Plaza de Armas, Cathedral and Manuel Montt Overlook from where there are panoramic views of Reloncaví Bay.
Then, we will drive to Frutillar. In Frutillar, you will feel a pleasant atmosphere with colorful houses, cheerful gardens, tea rooms and the modern lakefront theater “Teatro del Lago”. Discover this charming village where Lake Lanquihue and various volcanoes are part of the landscape. Here it is possible to experience the heritage of the German settlers, with spectacular old mansions, delicious Bavarian cuisine, and kuchen pastries or apple strudel. Frutillar enchants the visitor all year round with its beauty.
Afterwards, we will continue on a rural road used by farmers, so you can observe the agricultural and livestock activity that takes place in the area. We will continue onward to Puerto Varas, which also is known for its culture of German influence, seafood, and beautiful surroundings. Enjoy the views of the lake, the snow-capped Calbuco and Osorno Volcanos and Tronador Mountain, and stroll through the stores in search of local crafts.
Drop off at hotel in Puerto Varas.
Day 2:
Tour of Petrohue Falls, Todos Los Santos Lake, and Osorno Volcano with Typical Chilean Barbecue and Wine
Today is a day to be in nature. We will start with a drive along the shore of Lake Llanquihue until we reach Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park where we will visit Petrohue Falls. These impressive falls were formed by the eruption of Osorno Volcano.
Then, we continue onwards to Todos los Santos Lake and take a 30-minute boat ride on the emerald water.
Afterwards, we will drive up Osorno Volcano to a special spot overlooking Lago Llanquihue to have a BBQ picnic lunch with wine. This will be an unforgettable moment!
Day 3:
Chiloe Island and Penguin Colony (Weather Permitting)
Leaving from the city of Puerto Varas, we head towards the Pacific Ocean and the small village of Pargua. From there we will cross the Chacao Channel separating the island of Chiloe from the mainland.
Upon arriving in the city of Ancud, we will visit the old San Antonio Fort, the main square and the city market. We will have time to walk around downtown and along the waterfront.
Then we will drive another 15 miles along the Pacific coast to a village called Puñihuil, where two species of penguins (Magellanic and Humboldt) settle for breeding offspring from November to March. We will take a small motorboat excursion with special guides who will introduce us to the fauna of the tiny islands offshore that make up Puñihuil Natural Monument.
